Acrylic Art Paintings
If I'm a fan of a certain video game art, it is illegal to sell it?
I am looking into a painting done in acrylic on canvas, based on (but not copies), several video game characters. If I then put these paintings into my website to sell, is this legal? Is there a kind of weakness and I can dive through, if so? Thank you.
Basically, copyright to block you from trying to cash in on someone elses future. In this case, the popularity of the game This is something that only they should be able to cash in on. In some cases, you can avoid it. Like as if it is for World of Wonder, but you can not really say it and instead use the WoW that is generally recognized by the player as the same thing, it will be difficult for them to slap you for it. If you do not really come out and openly SAY that the company of their game (and do not directly use their art of course) then you are probably safe. Another route, which I often recommend to people who do fan t-shirts or mods for games that are based from something else ... asked. In my experience, about 50% of the time spent working. And in some small percentage even lead to cross-support arrangements.
